Consumers are increasingly buying online. 96% of all Dutch people over the age of 15 made online purchases in 2018. Therefore, more and more webshops are opening up. Most webshops are secure, so customers can order without hesitation. However, it is still difficult for customers to distinguish a fake shop from a reputable online shop.
As a result, consumers are increasingly being alerted to a number of issues that should be considered in an online store. It is therefore important for you, as a webshop owner, to not leave your customers in doubt. How do you dispel these doubts?
Sharing is caring
Three quarters of the Dutch read reviews and a quarter of all purchases are based on ratings.
Reviews are more important to customers than a sales conversation by an employee. Therefore make sure, that your customers can leave reviews and that they can found easily by users on your website. Do not hesitate to respond to negative reviews as well.
Dare to answer in content so that potential customers can also read that you are willing to find a solution for each client. With only positive reviews you do not look very trustworthy anymore. Use negative reviews as an opportunity to improve.
Make sure your company is easy to find in the Chamber of Commerce
If consumers have doubts about a webshop, they are advised to check if the company is registered at the Chamber of Commerce. Every company which is selling products or services is registered at the Chamber of Commerce. Online stores are legally obligated to state their company registration number on the website. Make sure it's easy to find for your customers. If that turns out to be difficult, it can happen that customers do not trust you and will do their online purchases at another webshop.
Do not hide from your customers
Be reachable to your customers. Some webshops are only offering contact options via email and or a chat.
This can create doubts among the users as the communication is only via text and no voice or face can be heard or seen. Make sure that you are reachable by telephone and that costumers know where you are located as a company. Do not state only the phone number but also when you are reachable. Furthermore, it is very important that the terms and conditions are complete so that customers know what they can expect from you and what you expect from them when they purchase a product or service.
Purchase on account or secure payment processing?
You create trust as soon as customers have a choice of several payment options. Especially insured payment methods such as credit card or PayPal. These payment methods have a so-called buyer-protection. A purchase is then insured for 180 days against theft, loss, and damage.
In addition, one of the trustworthy payments is AfterPay. With AfterPay customers only have to pay after receiving their goods.
The customer then has no financial loss if the product is for example not delivered. For returns, online retailers do not need to transfer the money back.
